In late Might, Trump introduced on social media that he was “terminating” Sajet, who’d held the place for 12 years and was the primary feminine director of the Nationwide Portrait Gallery.

The White Home acknowledged Sajet’s departure Friday, with spokesperson Davis Ingle saying in an announcement: “On day one, President Trump made clear that there isn’t any place for harmful anti-American ideology in our authorities and establishments. In align[ment] with this goal, he ordered the termination of Kim Sajet. The Trump Administration is dedicated to restoring American greatness and celebrating our nation’s proud historical past.”

In March, Trump issued an executive order banning federal spending on any Smithsonian displays that “divide Individuals primarily based on race.”

Sajet has not issued any public statements in regards to the order.

In a December interview with The Guardian, Sajet ― who was born to Dutch dad and mom in Nigeria and raised in Australia ― spoke about her “nice love” for the U.S. and its cultural affect on the remainder of the world, calling it a “great reward.”
