With out the generosity of Zakat (compulsory alms) and Sadaqa (voluntary charity), many main hospitals would wrestle to outlive. For a month, Egyptian TV and social media are flooded with appeals from hospitals looking for donations, as competitors for charity peaks. Hospitals spend hundreds of thousands on emotional campaigns, typically that includes celebrities or standard songs. Some depend on Ramadan donations for as much as 80% of their annual budgets.
