Houston, TX –Former NFL player Michael Tyson recently held a VIP soft opening for his new mental health center, hosted by The Owner School at The Cannon in West Houston. The exclusive gathering, attended by close friends and family, featured a short documentary highlighting the mental health challenges that athletes often face. The event received support from sponsors Omni Wound Physicians, PCCPA, Lena Light, and Found.

The Tyson Center, now open for business, is dedicated to addressing the mental health needs of athletes and others, offering specialized resources such as therapy, support groups, and wellness education. However, the center’s grand opening is set for 2025, allowing time to broaden its outreach and deepen its impact.

According to the American Psychiatric Association, nearly 35% of elite athletes experience symptoms of mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, or substance abuse. Yet, only about 10% seek treatment, often due to stigma and lack of access to specialized support. The Tyson Center aims to break down these barriers, creating a safe space where athletes can address issues like performance anxiety, injury recovery, and the often-challenging transition out of professional sports.

Tyson’s new initiative reflects a growing movement within the sports industry to prioritize holistic wellness, encouraging athletes to address their mental health as an essential component of overall success. With its array of dedicated services, the Tyson Center represents an important step forward in normalizing mental health care in sports and beyond.
