IN THE 1980S the KGB had a well-worn technique for pumping disinformation all over the world. “We most popular to work on real paperwork,” recalled Oleg Kalugin, a former KGB normal, “with some additions and modifications.” That technique has not modified enormously, however expertise has accelerated the method. In early March a community of internet sites, dubbed CopyCop, started publishing tales in English and French on a variety of contentious points. They accused Israel of struggle crimes, amplified divisive political debates in America over slavery reparations and immigration and unfold nonsensical tales about Polish mercenaries in Ukraine.
