For many years America’s delicate energy put the wind within the sails of its firms as they ventured overseas. When the Berlin Wall fell, Coca-Cola despatched lorries emblazoned with its brand into East Berlin, handing out free drinks to the amassing crowds. Gross sales quickly soared, as customers within the former communist state chugged enthusiastically on the sugary icon of American capitalism.
