On September ninth Mario Draghi, a former prime minister of Italy and former president of the European Central Financial institution, printed his long-awaited report on European competitiveness. The continent’s productiveness lags behind America’s, and it lacks world-beating company giants. Rising geopolitical tensions have made this downside extra acute for European policymakers. They’re proper to fret. Listed American corporations are, on common, larger and extra worthwhile than European ones. The distinction is especially putting amongst tech corporations, that are twice as worthwhile and greater than ten occasions the scale in America. ■
