THIS WEEK, between January 18th and twenty seventh, 1000’s of volunteers in a band of territory stretching throughout north-eastern Australia from Darwin to Brisbane are venturing into the night time with torches and collecting-buckets. They’re participating within the Nice Cane Toad Bust, an annual try to hold a lid on the inhabitants of those invasive, poisonous amphibians. Toads thus caught can be killed humanely by being chilled in fridges after which frozen.
