Investors fear inflation is coming back. They may be right

After peaking in 2022 at 11% 12 months on 12 months, inflation throughout the wealthy world has steadily fallen. Till now. As central banks carry down rates of interest, headline inflation throughout the wealthy world is edging up (see chart 1 ). It rose from 2.1% in September to 2.5% in December.
