New analysis reveals that kids who go onto the social media app TikTok and make enquiries about psychological well being will rapidly discover depressive content material, and that inside just a few hours they’re sure to see content material from customers expressing the desire to kill themselves. That analysis from Amnesty Tech is entitled “Dragged Into the Rabbit Gap”. The organisation says the findings spotlight TikTok’s ongoing failure to deal with its systemic design dangers affecting kids and younger folks, and likewise illustrate the failings of the European Union’s Digital Companies Act. Since 2023, the act requires platforms to determine and mitigate systemic dangers to kids’s rights. In Perspective, we spoke to Lauren Armistead, deputy director at Amnesty Tech.
