Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively‘s attorneys are firing again at one another over Full of life’s movement to dismiss herself from the multimillion greenback lawsuit the It Ends With Us director filed towards her.
Bryan Freedman described the transfer as “abhorrent” and described it as “abusing the system” by way of an announcement issued to Us Weekly on Thursday, March 20.
“Ms. Full of life’s current movement to dismiss herself from the self-concocted catastrophe she initiated is without doubt one of the most abhorrent examples of abusing our authorized system,” he stated by way of the assertion. “Stringent guidelines are put into place to guard the harmless and permit people to rightfully defend themselves. Legal guidelines aren’t meant to be twisted and curated by privileged elites to suit their very own private agenda.”
He continued: “As we stated yesterday in response to Mr. Reynolds’ identical cowardly measures, we’ll proceed to carry Ms. Full of life accountable for her actions of pure malice which embrace falsely accusing my shoppers of harassment and retaliation. Her fantastical claims will likely be swiftly debunked as discovery strikes ahead, simply disproved with precise, evidentiary proof.”
A spokesperson for Full of life slammed the assertion when Us reached out for remark.
“The late evening flurry of solutions — as a substitute of motions to dismiss — reveal that [Baldoni and Wayfarer defendants] know that they haven’t any authorized arguments remotely able to dismissing our grievance,” Full of life’s spokesperson instructed Us on Friday, March 21. “They’ve as a substitute accepted that Ms. Full of life’s grievance states legitimate authorized claims that they might not muster a single motive to dismiss. In the meantime, each individual and entity the Baldoni-Wayfarer staff sued has moved to dismiss their meritless PR stunt.”
Earlier on Thursday, Lively, 37, filed the motion to dismiss the lawsuit, in response to paperwork seen by Us.
“This lawsuit is a profound abuse of the authorized course of that has no place in federal court docket. California regulation now expressly prohibits suing victims who make the choice to talk out towards sexual harassment or retaliation, whether or not in a lawsuit or within the press,” Full of life’s attorneys Mike Gottlieb and Esra Hudson instructed Us in an announcement.
The assertion continued, “This meritless and retaliatory lawsuit runs head first into three authorized obstacles, together with the litigation, honest report, and sexual harassment privileges, the latter of which comprises a compulsory charge shifting provision that may require the likes of … Wayfarer Studios, and others that introduced frivolous defamation claims towards Ms. Full of life to pay damages. In different phrases, in an epic self-own, the Wayfarer Events’ try and sue Ms. Full of life ‘into oblivion’ has solely created extra legal responsibility for them, and deservedly so, given what they’ve finished.”

A spokesperson for Full of life additionally instructed Us, “The painful actuality is that Ms. Full of life isn’t alone in being sued for defamation after talking up about being sexually harassed at work. That’s totally why California not too long ago enacted AB 933, the Privileged Communications Incident of Sexual Assault, Harassment, or Discrimination Act, which codified California civil code part 47.1. Whereas Ms. Full of life has suffered vastly by talking up and pursuing authorized claims, it is necessary for different individuals to know that they’ve protections, and that there’s a particular regulation that expressly protects them from being silenced or financially ruined by a defamation lawsuit as a result of that they had the braveness to talk up.”
