Oktoberfest opening delayed in Munich after bomb threat | World News

The opening of Munich’s world-famous Oktoberfest has been delayed immediately following a bomb risk and an explosion at a house within the metropolis.

The bomb risk to the favored beer competition was acquired within the type of a letter from a suspect who police have linked to a hearth at a home within the north of the town.

When authorities searched the property, they discovered it was rigged with explosives.

Police have urged individuals to go away the Oktoberfest space whereas they sweep the fairgrounds for explosive gadgets.

It comes after officers had been referred to as to a hearth at a house within the Lerchenau space at round 4.40am.

In an replace on X, Munich Police mentioned “loud banging noises had been heard” once they arrived on the scene.

Large crowds have flocked to Munich for the annual Oktoberfest beer competition, which started on 20 September and runs till 5 October.

Police mentioned the opening of the competition grounds on Wednesday had been delayed whereas an investigation is ongoing.

“Because of an unspecified risk of explosives in reference to the explosion in northern Munich, the Theresienwiese will stay closed till 5pm,” a police assertion mentioned.

“Potential connections to different areas in Munich are being examined, together with the Theresienwiese.

“Because of this, the opening of the competition grounds has been delayed.”
