Former Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson and former deputy council chief Derek Hatton are amongst 12 individuals who have been charged as a part of an investigation into council corruption.

Anderson, 67, who was first arrested in December 2020, has been charged with bribery, misconduct in a public workplace and conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public workplace, Merseyside Police stated on Friday.

Hatton, 77, who was deputy chief within the Eighties and a known militant figure on the Labour left, has been charged with bribery and one rely of counsel or procure misconduct in a public workplace.

Anderson’s son David Anderson, 37, of Wavertree, is charged with conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public workplace.

The fees are a part of a long-running investigation often known as Operation Aloft, which was launched by police to look into the awarding of economic and enterprise contracts from Liverpool Metropolis Council between 2010 and 2020.

Different individuals charged embrace the previous assistant director of highways and planning and the previous head of regeneration.

The total expenses are:

  • David Anderson, 37 years, Wincanton Road, Wavertree, charged with one rely of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public workplace
  • Joseph Anderson, 67 years, of The Beechwalk, Knotty Ash, charged with one rely of Bribery, one rely of misconduct in a public workplace and one rely of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public workplace – former Mayor of Liverpool
  • Andrew Barr, 51 years, of Kendal Manner, Ainsdale, charged with conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public workplace and one rely of bribery – former Assistant Director at Liverpool Metropolis Council
  • Phillipa Cook dinner, 49 years of Rookery Drive, Mossley Hill, charged with two counts of bribery
  • Alex Croft, 29 years, of Daring Lane, Aughton, Lancashire, charged with one rely of bribery
  • Julian Flanagan, 53 years, of Poplar Avenue, Crosby charged with one rely of conspiracy to commit bribery
  • Paul Flanagan 61 years, of Ormskirk Street, Knowsley Village, charged with one rely of conspiracy to commit bribery
  • Derek Hatton, 77 years, of Livingston Drive, Aigburth, charged with one rely of bribery and one rely of counsel or procure misconduct in a public workplace
  • Sonjia Hatton, 49 years, of Livingston Drive, Aigburth, charged with one rely of misconduct in a public workplace
  • Nicholas Kavanagh, 56 years, of Rookery Drive, Mossley Hill, charged with two counts of bribery – former Director at Liverpool Metropolis Council
  • Adam McLean, 54 years, of Acrefield Street, Woolton, charged with one rely of conspiracy to commit bribery
  • James Shalliker, 38 years of College Lane, Downholland, Lancashire, charged with one rely of conspiracy to commit bribery

A spokesman for Merseyside Police stated all 12 have been because of seem at Preston Magistrates’ Courtroom on 28 March.

Joe Anderson served as the primary straight elected Labour Mayor of Liverpool from 2012 to 2021.

He was suspended by the celebration following his arrest in 2020 and didn’t stand for re-election the next 12 months.

Derek “Desgsy” Hatton was a firebrand member of the Militant tendency that infiltrated Labour within the Seventies and Eighties.

He was expelled from the celebration in 1986 as a part of a purge of the hard-left underneath Neil Kinnock’s management.

Robin Weyell, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor, stated: “The CPS has reviewed a full file of proof from the Merseyside Police and has authorised the investigation staff to cost 12 individuals with 12 offences associated to bribery and misconduct in public workplace.”

He stated legal proceedings at the moment are lively and “this can be very vital that there needs to be no reporting, commentary or sharing of knowledge on-line which might in any method prejudice these proceedings”.
