Serena Williams courted curiosity after calling out what seems to be a lodge for its cotton plant ornament.
In an Instagram Story she shared Thursday, the digicam approaches the association as Williams says, “All proper everybody, how will we really feel about cotton as a ornament? Personally for me, it doesn’t really feel nice.”
In one other story, she holds a chunk of the cotton in her gloved hand. “So really it appears like nail polish remover cotton,” she says.
“Pure,” she continues as she wipes her nails earlier than making a cringing gesture.
Multiple outlets lined the post as a few of the apparent questions remained unanswered by the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion herself:
Was she merely criticizing a design aesthetic or suggesting the cotton plant carried historic implications of racism?
