Stranded NASA astronauts send Christmas message from space | Science, Climate & Tech News

Astronauts stranded on the Worldwide House Station over Christmas have despatched a festive message again to Earth.

Sunita Williams, Barry Wilmore, Don Pettit and Nick Hague had been launched into house on 5 June on what was because of be an eight-day take a look at flight mission.

However the Boeing-made Starliner spacecraft suffered a number of technical points, together with helium leaks and thruster failures, and has been unable to return since.

Within the video message, recorded on 23 December, Mr Hague says: “The vacation season, it is about spending time with family and friends and family members – this yr we will be in orbit away from them, so we wish to ship our heartfelt merry Christmas and we hope you might have a beautiful vacation.”

Within the clip, the astronauts move one another weightless sweet canes, with Mr Hague including: “We’re not the one ones who’re going to spend time away from our households.

“There’s an enormous staff on the bottom that is going to help us with mission controls across the globe over the vacations and I wish to thank them for the sacrifices they’re making collectively.”

Lastly Mr Pettit says the vacations are “synonymous with meals and feasting” as they exhibit an air-tight package deal of canned meals.

It is not the primary Christmas Ms Williams has spent defying gravity – she was in house for the festive season in 2006.

Final month, the crew got a time without work to have fun Thanksgiving – and likewise took outing from their duties to forged their votes within the US election on 5 November.
