US investigation into Fed Chair Powell sparks chrus of criticism

Criticism has been pouring in from Republican and Democratic lawmakers, former Fed chairs and prime officers after the US Justice Division launched a legal investigation towards Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell.  After he described the transfer as retaliation towards the Fed for not reducing rates of interest as rapidly because the President wished, concern over the central financial institution’s independence pushed costs of safe-haven belongings like gold greater.
